MUSIC UPDATE: Live/Upcoming Releases

Thu, Jan 3 2008

LOCRIAN is playing tomorrow night at Ronny's in Chicago (01.04.07) w/ MIDSTS & I LOVE YOU. ||| The Reader says: "Sometimes musicians experiment for the sake of experimenting, and sometimes they experiment because they’re trying to find an alien beauty they can’t get to any other way. As the local duo LOCRIAN, Andre Foisy and Terence Hannum (who also play together in the gothic folk combo Unlucky Atlas) sculpt eerily gorgeous noise from an impressive array of materials: looped keyboards, jumbles of effects pedals, overdriven wordless vocals, electric and acoustic guitars (bowed, plucked, or just leaned against an amp to feed back), even miked aluminum foil. Their unwieldy heap of gear makes for an awkward-looking stage show, but the sounds they coax out of it are ineffably graceful. So far they’ve got a stack of small-edition releases—CD-Rs, seven-inches, cassettes—on equally small labels, which document a range of approaches from glitchy electronic abstraction to doomy metal crunch and dreamy drone, often in the same piece. —Monica Kendrick"

The masters for our 7" on the Bloodlust! Private 7" Series are on their way to the plant. Looking at a Feb. release. A CDR on Crank Satori is in the works along with an LP on Diophantine.

UNLUCKY ATLAS will begin recording this month for an upcoming record.

A new T.HANNUM split cassette is in the works and will be released on Human Conduct
